Prepared as of July 1, 1918, by the Adjutant General's Office, at the request of the correspondents' corps, and furnished through the Committee on Public Information.

The purpose of this compilation is to place at the disposal of correspondents and editors, for such reference and other use as may be desirable, correct data concerning the development of individual regiments comprising the Regular Army of the United States. Members of correspondents' corps requested that this data embrace some information as to nicknames and outstanding fighting achievements of the older regiments, but it was not found practicable to fur nish this.
