But their success depends on peri-implant bone level. Platform switching is a concept where smaller-diameter prosthetic component is connected to a larger-diameter implant platform to create an 90 degree step between the implant and abutment which results in peri-implant hard tissue stability with soft tissue and papilla preservation. This will prevent bacterial accumulation and secondary implantitis. This recent advancement along with change in shape and material of dental implants has made their application wider in dentistry.
