Sociology and complexity science (also referred to as sociology and complexity) is a new area of study within the larger field of complexity science-its acronym is SACS. SACS formally emerged around 1998, when sociologists and social scientists made what John Urry refers to as the complexity science turn; that is, the critical integration of the tools of complexity science (e.g., agent-based modeling, the new science of networks, etc) into the social sciences.
