Ou the other hand, I wrote about an ox, Bully, for the Atlantic Monthly because I wanted to write about him in particular at that time. I was n't writing a book - I was thinking about the ox and the article or essay about him. It was the same with the other things as they came along. But they are things which interested me and upon which I felt talkative so then I cast about and wanted you to put it in a book. I was n't, when I started out with Bully, engaged in writing a Unity. I had no theory of Unity which I set up and then started to write a book around. I was writing about Things.
