This book deals with the anti-microbial resistance in dogs and the use of probiotics as alternatives for antibiotics in canines. Extensive usage of antibiotics in canine practice may lead to development of antimicrobial resistance in dogs. The present study reports the beta-lactamase antimicrobial resistance in canine microbiota adds to the alarming antimicrobial resistance reports world-wide. Further, in vitro antibacterial activity of Lactobacillus strains of canine origin and the potential of the gut as a source of beneficial organisms with probiotic properties was exploited.
