AIM AND OBJECTIVE OF THE PRESENT INVESTIGATION Drugs are administered through different routes with different dosage regimens as per the nature of the drug, dose of the drug, therapeutic range and other parameters. Some of the drugs are administered at least three or four times a day for maintaining required therapeutic effect, which is not comfortable for patient to consume these many doses. Hence, sustained or controlled release technology was developed, wherein the doses are administered in one or two doses per day for sustaining the action of the drug for longer periods of time. Sustained or controlled release dosage forms are possessing advantages like maximum drug absorption, reduced peak plasma fluctuations and minimum potential side effects without lowering bioavailability. Different technologies have been developed for designing sustained or controlled release dosage forms like matrix tablets, microcapsules, microspheres, pellets etc. In recent times, because of avoidance of the problem of dose dumping, more consistent release, ease of manufacturing and ease of commercialization, multi unit dosage forms gained significance in the design of sustained
