But like the tadpoles which slowly turn into frogs under a bridge beside his house, he learns that life is constantly changing, and that true friendship often grows where you least expect it. The Frog Bridge story evolved from real events in the life of author, Ian Boyd, following the death of his ten-year old brother, Peter. Much of the plot reflects situations from later in Ian's youth and adulthood, but family life in the weeks following Peter's death is very much described as he remembered seeing it at the time through a child's eyes.
