O knihe

During the period 1944-1955, French authors such as Sartre, de Beauvoir, and Camus, along with other lesser-known dramatists, responded to the issues of their time by contributing a number of controversial plays to a distinctive genre of realist theatre. Addressing the ideological, political, and moral issues arising from World War II, the Cold War, and a series of disastrous colonial wars, these plays had considerable contemporary significance, but are virtually unknown today. Theatres of War is the first full-length study to be devoted to this genre of theatre and includes a chapter on the Rosenberg affair and the issue of anti-Semitism in the United States and Eastern Europe.
