O knihe

This anthology includes the work of several poets who are not usually associated with the Lakes but who visited the region, often on their way to Scotland, and were inspired by the majestic beauty of the landscape. John Keats was one of these - he passed through in 1818, but incorporated some of his impressions into Hyperion. As a child, John Ruskin, who grew up to be one of the greatest literary figures of the Victorian era, spent a holiday here and recorded his impressions in his earliest published verse. Later, Matthew Arnold, a great admirer of Wordsworth, visited his hero`s grave and was moved to compose verses upon it.

The wild beauty of the Lake district has changed little and if today`s walkers and visitors set off up Scafell or Helvellyn, they will be able to experience afresh the sense of wonder which prompted some of our finest poets to live in or visit time to time again, this most beautiful part of England.
