The process of globalization contributes to the expansion of intercultural communication, for the successful performance of which the knowledge of foreign languages is a priority. The monograph is devoted to the study of attrition, which in existing works is commonly understood as a regression of the level of language proficiency, both native and well-studied. The present study examined the speech of attritionists, Germans who emigrated from post-Soviet countries more than 20 years ago. The morphological and lexical levels of the language were analyzed in detail. The paper also highlights the theoretical aspects of linguistic attrition, provides a historical overview of migration processes, and reveals the tendencies of the Russian language to change under the influence of German after a long residence in the linguistic environment.
