Fabio Monteros braved Diaz dictatorship and decided to run against him in the next election as an opponent. Diaz became fearful of losing and had Monteros thrown into a Mexican prison. The people who supported Monteros joined forces with him and rebelled. Monteros formed groups to hunt Diaz and his supporters. He called men throughout the country. They put word out for all the bandit forces to join the rebellion. They called their group of rebels the "Desperado's."
